"My threads are doing Ironman numbers and I don't care anymore"
This is my favorite video that has ever come from the internet.
Sergeant Savage and his Screaming Eagles (1994)
Formative VHS from childhood. Really captures 90s film themes so perfectly. Fast and formulaic plot development. Satisfying villains. Tough love followed by coming together as brothers. And cartoon characters are are all more jacked than any Mr Olympia contestant that has ever existed.
CAVE RESCUE
Here's a gem that has hugely influenced the aesthetic design of the video game I'm making, Fun Boys. This is an iphone game called "CAVE RESCUE". The only trace that I can find of it on the entire internet is this link saying that it there is an iphone app of the that name.
The description of the game:
"Everything in the village was peaceful until the monster Queem Dokey has captured everyone. "Brave The Cave" and rescue the pals!Save 100 friends in a procedurally-generated world that's different each and every time you play!"
Basically it's a horrible game where you walk into a cave, grab one out a literal hundred different absurdly drawn creatures (clearly drawn in Microsoft paint), and then walk out of the cave (while dodging really slow really dumb enemies). You just do this 100 times and take to them back to the laboratory where you can see all of the creatures you've collected. The music is bizarre, almost creepy. Like Courage the Cowardly Dog meets Rugrats. I'm including screenshots here. There are no other screenshots of the game on the internet.
"I'm a cool parent, but I have to have boundaries..."
It can no longer be downloaded on the Iphone store, as they did not update it. And I'm pretty sure no one else on Earth has played it (no wait I found someone who reviewed it at the link above. They were not fans lmao). It makes absolutely no sense as a mobile game. There are no micro-transactions and the game is free. Clearly someone put a fair chunk of time into it but it's not clear why someone would do this. That, combined with the aesthetics, make it the most the most beautiful thing I've ever found.
I still hold onto a busted Iphone 4 because it has Cave Rescue installed.
Partially in its honor, I have created all the visuals for my game in Microsoft Paint as well. The forbidden aesthetic.
